Stoddard served as literary editor for the New York World and Vanity Fair while serving as customs inspector in New York city. A worn copy with some fading and spotting to the covers and a chip missing from the upper spine. The text is worn with some heavy foxing and spotting. There is an ink owner's signature on the front flyleaf. The second front blank is torn away and the rear blank has a gouge across the middle. Scarce.
