Towns In the Making

This book surveys town planning and building from prehistory to the modern day with special attention to the British Isles. Urban development is illustrated by reference to selected towns and districts. Considered are the social, economic and political factors that contributed to changes in the urban landscape. The book is intended to introduce the study of town and country planning by focusing on the successes and the failures of the past. The book features many illustrations of characteristic developments in town and country and the author includes several town plans previously unpublished.
