Not in a good long while has there been assembled between the covers of a book such a wealth of practical, down-to-earth, information presented in a very provocative, entertaining, format. On The Track provides in great depth every aspect of the Bernier's hunting methodology no matter what weapon they may be carrying; bow, rifle, or musket. Their unique style, old-fashioned approach, and the mystique surrounding their whitetail adventures are authenticated by several of the greatest deerslayers from America's past.

From Chapter 24: Perhaps a hundred years from now a deer literature historian will come upon this work on some obscure bookshelf collecting dust. Between the covers he will find written details about the life we led and tales about our hunting escapades. Hopefully, his thoughts will reflect mine as I have looked back on the great deer hunters from the past three centuries quoting them quite liberally, and realize how fortunate we must have been to have hunted where and in the manner in which we did. But that is then and this is now. Those colorful, animated huntsmen from a foregone era have helped shape, enhance, and enrich my life through their documented chronicles and stories. It would be highly enchanting for me to learn that this book had an equal affect on all those that turn its pages. Linking the hunters of the past with us has been an undertaking of joy and of great revelation to me. It has proven to me that the way we Berniers go about procuring whitetails today would have been suitable in any era no matter when and where they were hunted. Our methodology is in close resemblance to theirs, and if it's a dying art, as has been suggested, my hope with this book is that it not die with us.
