The Tradition of the Himalayan Masters

Pandit Tigunait skillfully weaves the teachings of the sages into a fabric of absorbing and delightful stories, so that the reader easily understands what might, in another context, look like formidable philosophy. In addition, he makes it practical, down-to-earth, and applicable to the conditions of modern life. He effortlessly renders the ancient teachings for contemporary students. A yogi who came of age in the traditional culture of India and studied widely with a number of teachers, he has been living and teaching in the United States for almost two decades.

This narrative is based on the great texts of Yoga, Vedanta, and Tantra, the writings of Shankaracharya, and the later teachers of the tradition. Many of the stories appear here for the first time in English.

The tradition of the Himalayan sages is an unbroken chain extending for thousands of years, a living tradition that still exists today, undisturbed by the passage of time or other external changes. This tradition is not concerned with teachings that are limited in their applicability to any era of history or to any geographical region of the world- its entire emphasis is on the experience of that Truth which is eternal and universal. Amy all who read this important book make progress on their spiritual journey." (from the Introduction by Swami Rama)
