"The Tradition of Virgil: Three Papers on the History and Influence of the Poet" is a scholarly examination of the enduring legacy of Publius Vergilius Maro, one of the most influential poets in Western history. Through three distinct essays by Junius S. Morgan, Kenneth McKenzie, and Charles G. Osgood, the work traces how Virgil's voice resonated through the centuries, shaping the literary, intellectual, and cultural landscapes of subsequent eras.

The collection addresses the transmission of Virgil's texts from antiquity, his pivotal role as a guide and spiritual mentor to Dante in the Middle Ages, and his profound influence on the development of the English literary imagination. By analyzing the poet's reception, the authors demonstrate how works like the "Aeneid," "Eclogues," and "Georgics" became essential pillars of the classical tradition and humanistic education.

This volume serves as an invaluable resource for students of classical studies and comparative literature, offering a deep look into the historical continuity of Virgil's impact. It highlights the poet not just as a figure of the Roman past, but as a living force that has continuously inspired poets, scholars, and thinkers across the Western world.
