Fourth edition, complete but in more compact format than previous editions. -- Illustrated by engravings on steel and wood (plates have tissue guards, and are crisply printed). Includes memoir of the author. -- Hardcover, 2 volume set. Condition: good (hinges are weak/fragile; corners bumped and lightly worn, several pages bumped v.2; faint stain spots to covers). Pages are clean and bright, and overall an attractive set, see our Bookseller Images. -- John Roby collected materials for these works with the help of English local nobility; his work was praised by Francis Palgrave in 1829: "extreme beauty of your style [etc.] valuable addition to English topography [with these] popular traditions.".
