After fleeing the underground Lyostian colony, Caroline attempts to build an ordinary life in plain sight with four human-alien hybrid children. But the danger followed them. Humans want to examine and institutionalize the boys, while the Lyostian brotherhood intends to recover and "rehabilitate" them in an underground observational habitat.

Among the children is Austin-Grant's son and the only Fire Slayer still alive.

Told through letters, journal entries, and newspaper clippings, Training Ground follows Caroline across twenty-five years as she hides the truth of what her children are while preparing them for the future they were born to face. Guided only by Grant's memories and letters, she must raise four boys into Lyostian soldiers capable of surviving enemies from both worlds-and perhaps changing who holds power over the world.
