Transformations Of Consciousness

Drawing on modern psychology and psychiatry, as well as the world's great meditative traditions, Transformations of Consciousness presents the first "full-spectrum" model of human development - one that includes both the conventional stages of psychological growth and the "higher" levels of spiritual development.

Ken Wilber, Jack Engler, and Daniel P. Brown, leaders in the fields of psychology and psychiatry, seek to promote a dialogue between the two approaches - conventional and contemplative - which, they maintain, have much to gain from each other.

This powerful work could alter the future of consciousness research as well as clinical practice. It will appeal both to professionals and to laypersons interested in the fascinating interface between psychological and spiritual perspectives.

Ken Wilber, general editor of New Science Library, is credited with founding "spectrum psychology." He has written over one hundred articles and authored or edited ten books, including No Boundary and Up from Eden, published by New Science Library.

Jack Engler is clinical director of the Schiff Psychiatric Day Treatment Center of Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a supervising psychologist on the faculty of Harvard Medical School. A field editor of the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology, he has studied Buddhist psychology and meditation for many years.

Daniel P. Brown is director of training in psychiatry at Central Hospital in Somerville, Massachusetts, and teaches at Harvard Medical School and Simmons College School of Social Work. He has conducted extensive scientific research on meditation.
