Transmigration Volume 1

Transmigration by Mortimer Collins. Transmigration is a multi-generational narrative told in the first person by Sir Edward Ellesmere, heir to Ellesmere and lover of Lucy Lovelace. The novel charts his youth among the English aristocracy, his experiences at Eton and in London, a fateful duel, and the consequences of a life lived with extravagant self-indulgence. Interwoven with his tale is a metaphysical thread inspired by Henry Romayne’s writings on metempsychosis and the Transmigration of souls. Edward’s journey moves through Beau Sejour, the Romayne circle, and the countryside as he confronts love, loss, and the possibility that souls pass from one life to another. The narrative culminates in a reunion with Lucy and a meditation on faith, memory, and the immortality of the soul.
