The Trap

The Trap by Maximilian Foster. A psychological drama of wealth and desire set in New York's Fitzhugh Square and the Hudson Valley, The Trap follows Henry Lester, a multimillionaire, his circle of friends, and Sally Raeburn, a young woman of striking breeding. Lester returns home after years away and hosts an improvised dinner that becomes a stage for manipulation and passion. He suspects Sally may be attracted to money and hatches a test: he hires Hastings, a polished stranger with a shadowy past, to woo the girl. Hastings proves to be a fortune-seeking impostor and Sally's flirtation with him exposes a web of deceit connecting Mrs. Steese, a scheming aunt, and the couple's rival. As events unfold, old loyalties, blackmail threats, and buried resentments come to light. In the end, the truth comes home: Lester confesses his wrongdoing, Sally confronts her choices, and the lovers face a climactic reckoning that tests love, pride, and consequence. The Trap examines class, deception, guilt, and the fragile line between affection and ambition.
