Traveling with Em

Meet Alex and Em - two friends embarking on an exciting trip filled with emotion.

Alex discovers Em, her anxious monster friend, hiding in her room the night before traveling. Em is nervous about flying on an airplane and tries to prevent Alex from going on the trip. As she prepares for the trip, Alex befriends Em and uses different tricks to encourage it to keep going on their adventure through the airport.

This illustrated book has been reviewed by psychologists. Anxiety can turn into a big emotion and get very overwhelming, as you will see in the beginning of the book with BIG Em. This story teaches readers how to recognize anxiety, the importance of acknowledging it, and how to use coping techniques and self-regulating tools that can help manage the anxiety that comes with flying.

Alexa Cabrera (short stories capsule) is a Venezuelan woman living in Virginia. She writes fantasy, non-fiction and poetry about mental health, love and other topics from the point of view of a millennial woman.

I draw letters that like to dance, illustrations that tell little secrets, and layouts that make peace between chaos and grids. Nature, childhood memories, and feminist sparks all sneak their way into my work-usually in bright colors. Every piece is a mini adventure-sometimes emotional, sometimes silly, always a little magical.
