two volumes, octavo, ca. 5.5" x 9" pp. xxi,(2) 450; vi, (1), 430 , (2), alll illustrations and vignettes called for in list in vol. 1 being presnt and with 10 plates including large folding map of South Africa and 8 vignettes in vol. 2. Bindings not quite good overall- bound in half leather - vol. 1 was re-backed at come point in time- both with marbled paper covered boards, corners bumped, moderately heavy wear to bindings. Contents generally good, all illustrations present with varying degrees of spotting, wear and tears. Map of South Africa soiled and with closed tears, other folding plates have closed tears and some old repair- these are fair ro good but present. There is a dampstain at the top corner - bound edge- of vol. 1 that is clear on several pages at front, but largely disappears several pages in. Vol. 2 has a small such stain toward the front and back, but not much seen inside. Overall, not quite good set, but complete.
