A Treatise on Exorcism & Its Rituals: Doctrine, Discernment, Liturgy, and Deliverance in the Orthodox Tradition

Exorcism is not a spectacle. It is a victory.

For centuries, exorcism has stirred fear, fascination, and controversy. It has been distorted by superstition, sensationalism, and religious excess. Yet in the Orthodox Christian Tradition, exorcism is neither occult technique nor theatrical ritual. It is an act of the Church: sober, prayerful, and rooted in the definitive victory of Jesus Christ over the powers of darkness.

In Treatise on Exorcism & Its Rituals, Father Johan Storm offers both a serious theological guide and a rare liturgical resource. Drawing on Holy Scripture, the Church Fathers, and Orthodox liturgical tradition, he restores exorcism to its true place within Christian life: not as spectacle, but as discernment, spiritual warfare, deliverance, and peace in Christ.

This volume does more than discuss exorcism. It also includes the traditional rites themselves, making it a valuable resource for readers seeking authentic texts framed by doctrinal clarity and pastoral sobriety.

Included in this book:

• The Baptismal Exorcisms of the Catechumenate
• The Exorcisms of Saint Basil the Great
• Prayers for a Home Troubled by Evil Spirits
• The Exorcism of Saint Tryphon over a Field, Vineyard, or Garden

Far from sensationalism, this book offers something increasingly rare: the rites of exorcism and deliverance presented within the spiritual wisdom, liturgical depth, and ecclesial balance of the Orthodox Church.

For readers interested in exorcism, spiritual warfare, Christian deliverance, and the traditional prayers of the Church, this book provides both the texts and the framework needed to approach the subject seriously.
