#350 of 700 facsimile copies of the 1746 first edition specially reprinted in 1968. xvi, 232 pages. Thirty-four black and white illustrations. "With remarks on the constructions of the most celebrated authors, particularly of Marshal de Vauban and Baron Coehorn, in which the perfection and imperfection of their several works are considered. For use of the Royal Academy of Artillery at Woolwich." - subtitle. "Designed to trace the history of modern fortification. Includes commentaries on the work of French, German, English and other contemporaries. Almost every fort built in America was designed on the theories contained in this book." - dust jacket. Armorial bookplate upon front free endpaper, otherwise book clean, bright and unmarked with very light wear. Average wear to dust jacket which is now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
