A Treatise On The Science Of Music (1853)

A Treatise On The Science Of Music is a book written by Daniel M. G. S. Reeves in 1853. The book is a comprehensive guide to the principles and theories of music, including the physics of sound, the structure of musical scales, and the principles of harmony and counterpoint. It also covers the history of music from ancient times to the present day, and includes discussions of the major composers and their works. The book is written in a clear and concise style, making it accessible to both musicians and non-musicians alike. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the science and art of music. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

First published in 1853, this was one of the earliest treatises to take a scientific as well as a practical approach to the discussion of music, and can be seen as a response to the growing interest from the amateur in the 'science', as much as the 'art', of music.
