Johnson & Co., Law Booksellers and Publishers, No. 535 Chestnut Street, 1858. xxx, 295 pp. [Bound With] Phear, [Sir] J[ohn] B[udd] [1825-1905]. A Treatise on Rights of Water, Including Public and Private Rights to the Sea and Sea-Shore. Philadelphia: T. & J. W. Johnson & Co., Law Booksellers and Publishers, No. 535 Chestnut Street, 1859. xii, 76 pp. Octavo (8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; 21.60 x 14 cm). Contemporary sheep, blind fillets to boards, blind fillets and red and black morocco lettering pieces. Light rubbing and a few minor scuffs to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, with wear to head of spine and corners, front joint starting at head, later presentation bookplate to front free endpaper. Light toning to interior, light foxing to sections of text, corner folds to a few leaves, light browning to title page of Fry's Treatise. A very good volume. $350. * Only American editions. Fry's Treatise is star-paged to the 1st London edition, 1858; Phear's Treatise is star-paged to the 1859 London edition. Published from 1833 to 1860 in 104 volumes, The Law Library was a reprint series that provided American practitioners with affordable editions of the latest English legal treatises. The bookplate says this book belonged to the library of Allison Jerome Coover [1831-1900] and was donated posthumously by his daughter, Bertah Coover, to the Madison Lodge of the International Order of Odd Fellows, London, Ohio.
