Trends in Music Information Seeking, Behavior, and Retrieval for Creativity

In the literature of information science, a number of studies have been carried out attempting to model cognitive, affective, behavioral, and contextual factors associated with human information seeking and retrieval. On the other hand, only a few studies have addressed the exploration of creative thinking in music, focusing on understanding and describing individuals’ information seeking behavior during the creative process. Trends in Music Information Seeking, Behavior, and Retrieval for Creativity connects theoretical concepts in information seeking and behavior to the music creative process. This publication presents new research, case studies, surveys, and theories related to various aspects of information retrieval and the information seeking behavior of diverse scholarly and professional music communities. Dr.Petros A. Kostagiolass is an Assistant Professor of information services management in the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology, Faculty of Information Science and Informatics at Ionian University, Corfu, Greece. He is also a visiting lecturer at Robert Gordons University, Aberdeen, U.K. He holds a Ph.D. in the field of quality and reliability management from the University of Birmingham, U.K. His work has been published in international journals and conference proceedings. His research interests include the theory and practice of information services management, intellectual capital management, quality management, as well as information seeking behaviour in various settings.

Dr Konstantina Martzoukou is a Lecturer in the Department of Information Management at Aberdeen Business School, Robert Gordon University. She is the Course Leader of the MSc in Information and Library Studies and supervises MSc and PhD students. Her research interests centre on the areas of information-seeking behaviour and information literacy. Her PhD research examined postgraduate students information-seeking behaviour when using Web search engines. She is a member of the Academic Council for Aberdeen Business School and of the Institute of Management Governance and Society (IMaGeS) at the Robert Gordon University; an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), a committee member of CILIPS Multimedia Information and Technology and a co-opted member of Grampian Information.

Charilaos Lavranos is a PhD candidate in the Department of Music Studies, Ionian University, Greece. He holds BA from the Department of Music Studies, Ionian University, and M.Sc. from the Department of Archives and Library Science, Ionian University, Greece. He also holds degree in the trumpet and music theory (fugue and instrumentation) from the Conservatory of Corfu, Greece. His research interests include music information seeking behaviours in relation to creativity. Since 2004, he has worked as a secondary school music teacher in Greece.
