Oleksiy V. Penkov is currently an associate professor at Zhejiang University/the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Institute (ZJU-UIUC) at Zhejiang University, China.
He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the National Technical University (KhPI), Ukraine. In 2007, he received his doctorate in physics and mathematics with a specialty in solid-state physics. During 2011-2019, he was a research professor at the Center for Nano-Wear at Yonsei University, Korea. His research interests cover several areas of physics, materials science, and mechanical engineering, such as nanolayered coatings, tribology, and surface engineering. He has authored dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles in the field of tribology of graphene and graphene-based materials.
