Triggered To Change

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand meets David Goggins’ Can’t Hurt Me in this former gangster’s memoir of resilience and redemption.

For John Carter, getting shot in the head was the “easy part.” At the hospital, doctors told his family that they’d better hope he died. But he refused to stop fighting. When he woke from a 90-day coma, he was told he’d never walk or talk again. A decade of disability, addiction, depression, and a prison sentence followed. Over and over again, the world would knock him down — but Carter always gets back up, even with nine bullet fragments permanently lodged in his skull.

Triggered to Change is an inspiring true story of self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work. Follow a former mafia member as he casts off his identity as a drug-dealing criminal and stands from his wheelchair to become a personal trainer, speaker, and entrepreneur.

Uplifting, humorous, and intensely moving, Carter’s journey from the ICU to incarceration to giving a TedTalk is a gripping reminder that transformation is always possible. The life you want to live is always within reach — no matter who you are or where you are starting from.
