Gr. 9-12. In the first volume in a new graphic novel series, Vash the Stampede, an infamous outlaw in a postapocalyptic world, leaves a trail of destruction in his wake. Rumors of his villainy, passed freely along the frontier, have resulted in Bernadelli Insurance Society dispatching two agents, Meryl and Milly, to catch up with Vash and stem the tide of insurance claims related to the disasters. Once the agents meet Vash, however, they find that though chaos follows him with an unnatural frequency, Vash is actually a nonviolent, somewhat goofy guy. This full-color Trigun, not to be confused with the reprint of the manga version (also available from Dark Horse), has been taken directly from frames of the popular anime series. The art, in the traditional manga style, is fun and kinetic, and it illustrates the comedy of the story to great effect. Humor and action abound, Wild West cliches speed the story along, and solid characterizations allow readers to care about the characters even when the jokes and/or the bullets aren't flying.
