About this Item
A three volume set of the works of George Du Maurier, illustrated with charming illustrations George Louis Palmella Busson du Maurier (1834 1896) was a French-born British author and cartoonist. Trilby (1894) is a gothic horror novel by George du Maurier and one of the most popular novels of its time, perhaps the second best selling novel of the Fin de siècle period after Bram Stoker's Dracula. Trilby is set in the 1850's in an idyllic bohemian Paris. Trilby O'Ferrall, the novel's heroine, is a magnificent half-Irish girl working in Paris as an artists' model and laundress; all the men in the novel are in love with her. The Martian is a largely autobiographical novel that tells about the lives of two bosom friends, Barty Josselin and Robert Maurice, starting from their school age days in Paris in the 1850"s. Written like a narrative with very scarce dialogues and many digressions. In full cloth bindings, with gilt lettering and decoration. Externally, smart. Slight bumped to top and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean. Mild spotting to the endpapers of Trilby. Small ink stamp towards to the front of each volume. Very Good. Seller Inventory # SET8-B-7
