In this volume, Robert Doran completes his three volume work The Trinity in History, aimed at showcasing the relevance of the doctrine of the Trinity in concrete history. Volume 1: Missions and Processions and Volume 2: Missions, Relations, and Persons set up as basic terms and relations the Four Point Hypothesis and the structural intelligibility of history. These constitute the unified field structure for systematic theology organized and integrated in the scale of values. Specifically, in this third volume, in addition to the analytic and synthetic steps toward theological understanding, Doran proposes a more concrete and more comprehensive theological synthesis grounded in the impact of the Trinity in history, what he calls for want of a better term “the way of genetic advance.”

About the Author
Robert M. Doran, S.J., specialized in Catholic systematic theology and the philosophy and theology of Bernard Lonergan; his most recent research had to do with the theology of the divine missions, The Trinity in History. Two of the three volumes have been published by University of Toronto Press: Missions and Processions (2012) and Missions, Relations, and Persons (2019) and with this, the third volume, he constitutes a contemporary soteriology. Robert M. Doran was general editor of the twenty-five-volume set The Collected Works of Bernard Lonergan (University of Toronto Press) and author of several other books, including: Theology and the Dialectics of History, What Is Systematic Theology? Subject and Psyche, and Psychic Conversion and Theological Foundations, along with a number of articles in professional journals. He is co-Founder and Director Emeritus of the Lonergan Research Institute, Toronto, and of the Marquette Lonergan Project.
