Tripping Around The African Sun: A year of lessons, laughter and culture shock in the Gambia

Tripping Around the African Sun: A Journey Through Culture, Contrast, and Discovery

What happens when an American woman uproots her life and dives headfirst into the heart of West Africa? Tripping Around the African Sun is a real ,unfiltered look at our first year living in The Gambia—where every day is an adventure, every interaction a lesson, and every challenge an opportunity for growth beyond the pretty pictures and vacation vibes.

Life moves different out here. Time stretches, community is everything, and the smallest moments teach the biggest lessons. Some days were full of joy and new experiences; other days had me questioning all my life choices. But through it all, we adjusted, we learned, and we grew in ways we never expected. With an eye for cultural contrasts and a humorous yet reflective tone, this book takes readers beyond the surface of travel and into the realities of daily life in The Gambia.

Perfect for expats, travelers, and the African diaspora, come take this ride with me. Whether you’re dreaming of an African adventure or simply seeking a fresh perspective on life, Tripping Around the African Sun invites you to experience the beauty, complexity, and joy of embracing the unknown. Because sometimes, the best adventures start when you stop playing it safe.
