True Christianity vs. Western Christianity (Paperback)

True Christianity vs. Western Christianity

Something feels off.

Many Christians sense it but struggle to name it. The language is right. The music is familiar. The buildings are full. And yet the spirit of Jesus feels strangely absent from much of what calls itself Christianity today.

In this honest, Scripture-driven examination, Ray Gilbert asks the question most church culture avoids: What would Jesus actually recognize as Christianity - and what would he rebuke?

Drawing solely from the Gospels and the words of Jesus himself, this book examines ten of the most uncomfortable gaps between the Jesus of the New Testament and the Christianity commonly practiced in the modern West - from the love of enemies and the danger of wealth, to the rejection of violence and the collapse of tribal faith.

This is not an attack on Christians. It is an invitation to return to Christ.

True Christianity vs. Western Christianity is for anyone who loves Jesus enough to take his words seriously.

Ray Gilbert is an independent writer whose work examines the gap between what we claim to believe and how we actually live. With no institutional affiliation and no theological axe to grind, Gilbert approaches difficult subjects with a straightforward commitment to honesty - letting the primary sources speak for themselves and trusting readers to draw their own conclusions.

His writing is shaped by a conviction that most people are capable of handling truth when it is presented without condescension, without a political agenda, and without the safety nets that organized systems tend to build around uncomfortable ideas.

Gilbert writes for the person sitting in the back of the room who suspects something important is being left unsaid. His books are an attempt to say it.
