The True History of Moses, Aaron, Joshua, and Others, Deduced from a Review of the Bible: and Also, Remarks on the Morals of the Old and New Testament, and Some of the Ancient Philosophers

The True History Of Moses, Aaron, Joshua, And Others, Deduced From A Review Of The Bible by J. M. Dorsey. This polemical work reviews the Old and New Testaments, particularly Moses’s writings, and argues that the biblical narratives and the religious institutions derived therefrom are false, tyrannical, and morally corrupt. Dorsey contends that the God of Moses is a local tyrant; he examines the conduct of biblical figures (Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, David, Solomon) and critiques their morals, while contrasting Christian and ancient philosophers with a call for rational inquiry, self-government, and secular education. He denounces clerical influence in civil government and advocates reason, science, and liberty over religious authority, providing extensive quotations and arguments drawn from philosophical and biblical criticism. The work also surveys the authority of the Bible, the canon, infidelity, and the role of philosophy in society, concluding with a vision of a republic guided by justice rather than dogma.
