Reviews
True Prosperity is an original and practical book about a tried and true idea: living within your means. Engaging, easy to read and particularly useful for low to middle income readers.
The author provides a road map for realizing the American dream of true prosperity--economic freedom and security, independence, and opportunity. Knouse notes that most Americans are slaves to debt, and his book shows us how to live a cash-based lifestyle with savings in the bank and money enough to pay cash for everything. He explains his views by drawing on personal experiences: his aim is not to get rich quick but to secure a modest future while putting aside enough ready cash to avoid debt. There are lessons in budgeting, interest-free use of credit cards (by paying off the monthly balance), and the proper use of debt in a house purchase. Although his stringent approach to personal finances may not suit everyone, he provides a basic framework for financial management. Knouse acknowledges that critics may find his views too extreme and too conservative to be practical, yet his "tough" approach to money management is valuable insight into our debt-laden world for people across the economic spectrum.
