The True Protestant's Manual; Or, Brief Answers Of A Disciple Of The Bible To The Principal Questions Of The Romish Controversy, translated by César Henri A. Malan, features a compelling dialogue between a Stranger seeking a Protestant perspective on the Romish controversy and a Disciple of the Bible providing concise, Scripture-based responses. Organized around five major controversies—The Bible; The Church; The Form of Worship; The Virgin, the Saints, and Their Relics; and The Pardon of Sins—this work defends the Bible as the sole rule of faith, emphasizes salvation through faith and grace, and critiques Roman Catholic doctrine and practices. It argues that the Romish Church distorts Scripture through tradition, idolatrous worship, and sacerdotal authority, while asserting that believers have direct access to God through Christ. The book advocates for personal engagement with Scripture, the priesthood of all believers, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in seeking truth. This 19th-century Protestant polemic is presented in a classic edition.
