In "The Truth About Fasting With Special Reference to Fasting-Communion", Percy Dearmer provides a scholarly and persuasive examination of the historical and theological foundations of fasting within the Christian tradition. A renowned expert on liturgy and ecclesiastical practice, Dearmer addresses the complexities surrounding the discipline of fasting, particularly its relationship with the reception of the Holy Eucharist. By tracing the evolution of these practices from the early Church through the Middle Ages and into the modern era, the work seeks to clarify common misconceptions and offer a balanced perspective on spiritual discipline.

This treatise is particularly notable for its focus on the practice of fasting-communion, analyzing its origins and the degree of its obligation in the contemporary church. Dearmer utilizes his extensive knowledge of church history and canon law to argue for a practice that respects tradition while remaining grounded in practical reality and spiritual health. "The Truth About Fasting With Special Reference to Fasting-Communion" remains an essential resource for those interested in liturgical reform, Anglican history, and the development of Christian rituals. It offers valuable insights into how outward observances can best serve the inner life of faith.
