In Yiddish, vowelized. 222 x 155 mm. Printed on good paper, but boards are detached. Internally in very good condition. This edition is not iillustrated. Rabbi Yaakov ben Itzhak (= Itshak = Isaac) Ashkenazi of Janow Lebelski (= Yanov) (Born 1550, died 1628) First published in 1622. Written in Yiddish, for women, who in centuries past generally did not read Hebrew and were not as well-versed in biblical commentary as men, Tse'ena Ure'ena is a summary of the weekly Torah (= Pentateuch = the first five books of the Bible) readings and traditional biblical commentary and folklore relating to it. It also includes: prayers, stories from the Talmud, a paraphrase of the Haftarot, and the five megillot.
