Item description from seller

Pp. 31. Tuberculosis (T.B.) was a scourge ofan illness in Ireland in the 20th century. Consumption was what the layman called the disease. Untreated T.B. left the victim consumed by weight loss and breathlessness. It consumed the lives of thousands in Ireland and is still a voracious killer in many countries.More young Irish people were slain by TB than in warfare. It was prevalent in Ireland in up to the 1970's, but most prevalent in the 1940's & '50s. Noel Browne as Minister for Health in the Inter Party government of the late 1940's-50's played a big part in bringing about it's eradication introducing radical policies that reduced the mortality rate from the disease. This pamphlet was issued by a voluntary body to help combat the disease.
