About the Author

David A. Powell is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute (1983) with a BA in history. He is the author of scores of articles and more than fifteen historical simulations, in addition to many award-winning books, including The Chickamauga Campaign trilogy, The Maps of Chickamauga, and Failure in the Saddle. He is currently finishing the third of five installments on the Atlanta Campaign, the first of which was a finalist for the Army Historical Foundation’s Distinguished Writing Award. David and his wife Anne live with a brace of bloodhounds in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.

Eric J. Wittenberg was an accomplished historian and author. The Ohio attorney had written nearly two dozen books on various Civil War subjects, with a particular focus on cavalry operations. He was the recipient of multiple awards, including the prestigious 1998 Bachelder-Coddington Literary Award. Sadly, Eric passed on August 2, 2025.
