Synopsis
The basic concepts of highway and building engineering have been getting significantly changed and updated. Developments in road and building technology and operations are now available to designers, builders and operators and building owners who want to maximize both economic and environmental performances. The book is based on empirical practices and experience of individual engineers, with an approach of emphasizing on the theoretical aspects. In India several organizations namely, Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH), Indian Road Congress (IRC), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Public Works Department (PWD) along with some educational institutions are contributing knowledge and newer concepts to the field of highway and building engineering. The purpose of this book is to gather and present practical solutions to the problems which are arrived by Dr Nandanandan Das, through his thirty-five years & more long vast service experience and these were formulated by the contributors for the students to inculcate during their study of engineering to overcome such problems if faced during execution. The authors' objective is to prepare this book to introduce the subject of fine-tuning of engineering challenges of road and building projects to the students in a systematic manner. Besides being useful to the Civil Engineering students in general, the book will also be uselful to PG students studying highway engineering as subject, field engineers, consultants, and researchers.
About the Author
Dr. Nandanandan Das, D.Sc (Civil Engineering), D. Litt (Social Work), Ph.D (Fine Tuning on Road), Ph.D (Fine Tuning on Building) had been E.I.C. cum Secretary, Works (Retd) Govt. of Odisha. He has executed the massive road projects like Express way and Rourkela- Sambalpur, A.D.B. Project and has constructed different housing schemes for the 'Odisha State Housing Board'. He has formulated new concepts of 'Road Safety Measures', 'Construction/ Maintenance of Road Project' and 'Building Defects with Remedies', for the Government of Odisha, which were circulated to the concerned departments as ideal guides.He presented several papers in IRC sessions in Nagpur and Lucknow. He has received several State Awards and National Awards including the Rastriya Gourava Award. He has published more than 100 technical and social papers in books and journals. He presented new concepts practically derived on RCC slab casting for long lasting building and orientation of building technically constructed avoiding adverse effect of Vastu Shastra. About the Contributors: Aditya Kumar Das holds M.Tech from NIT Rourkela, Odisha. He has completed his B.Tech degree from V.S.S.U.T., Burla (Formerly UCE burla). He is currently working as Assistant Professor, School of Civil Engineering, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. He has published one international conference and one International journal paper. His research areas are pavement materials characterization, bitumen rheology, performance of bituminous mixes, pavement analysis and mechanistic design of pavement structures. Dr Sanjaya Kumar Patro holds Ph.D from IIT Bombay. He had been a Post Doctorate fellow at University of Arkansas, USA and is currently Professor in department of Civil Engineering at VSSUT, Burla (Formerly UCE burla). He has published more than 40 technical papers in journals and conferences. His areas of interest are utilization of industrial solid waste in preparation of cement and concrete, application of nanoscience in concrete, computational wind engineering, energy dissipation systems for seismic resistant design and so on.
