Du Val, Pierre. Turcicu Imperium In Asia. Paris, 1694. Original copper engraving. Small-scale but highly detailed seventeenth-century map of the Ottoman Empire in Asia, extending from Asia Minor and the Levant across Mesopotamia and Persia towards the Caspian Sea and Arabia. Includes Constantinople, Cyprus, the Black Sea and eastern Mediterranean. Finely engraved in the characteristic French style with pictorial mountains and Latinised place names. Uncoloured, as issued. Sheet size 14.6 x 12.9 cm. Minor age marks and fold line, otherwise in good condition overall. An attractive example of late seventeenth-century French cartography by Pierre Du Val, nephew of Nicolas Sanson and royal geographer to Louis XIV.
