Turning Guilt Trips Into Joy Rides

Shirley Brosius, Janine Boyer, and Kim Messinger speak together as Friends of the Heart. Their passion is to help women open their hearts and find joy in Christ. All three are married with children and residents of Millersburg, Pennsylvania. Shirley, a former business education teacher and director of Christian education, is the author of Sisterhood of Faith: 365 Life-Changing Stories About Women Who Made a Difference, which received the 2009 Gold Award in the inspirational/spiritual category from Young Voices Foundation. A graduate of Bloomsburg University with a master's degree in Christian education from Evangelical Theological Seminary, she has written hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles. Shirley and her husband, Bill, have two married sons, a daughter waiting in heaven, and five adorable grandchildren. She loves reading, playing board games, and putting on hat and gloves to portray a snooty know-it-all for skits at women's retreats and events.

At Millersville University, she majored in foreign language with a minor in business. With a son and a daughter in college, she watches and plays sports, reads, and takes care of her dog, Domino. For skits, Janine portrays Dora the Explorer, a young risk taker. Like Dora, Janine enjoys adventures such as skydiving, parasailing, and riding roller coasters.

She holds an associate degree in Bible from Lancaster Bible College, a degree in elementary education from Millersville University, and a master's degree in special education from Nova Southeastern University. She cheers on two teenaged sons at soccer events and takes care of her Newfoundland, Mercy Grace. You will also find her snipping herbs in her garden for cooking gourmet dishes. She enjoys singing, especially with her husband, Matt. Perfectly typecast, Kim portrays Wonder Woman for program skits.
