Item description from seller

Published in London in 1725, this edition presents Erasmus’s colloquies in English translation by Roger L’Estrange, with additions by Thomas Brown. These dialogues examine themes ranging from religion to education through pointed, satirical exchanges. The frontispiece engraving precedes the text. It was printed by Daniel Brown, George Strahan, and B. Motte. The book’s tone mirrors the irony common in humanist literature of the Renaissance. Condition: Good. Bound in full leather with some loss at the cover and hinges; slight movement to the boards though still secure. Text block complete with age toning throughout. Format: (8vo), single volume. Collation: [28], 404 pp. Illustrations: One engraved portrait frontispiece. References: #29793. PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
