Two Discourses, on the Perpetuity and Provision of God's Gracious Covenant With Abraham and His Seed

Two Discourses, On The Perpetuity And Provision Of God's Gracious Covenant With Abraham And His Seed by Samuel Worcester offers a thorough theological treatment of the Abrahamic covenant, arguing its perpetual nature and its ongoing transmission through generations into the gospel era. Worcester contends that the covenant with Abraham forms the foundation of the church, uniting Jewish and Gentile believers as one body and ensuring that the blessings promised to Abraham extend to all who have faith in Christ. The work treats Galatians 3:29 as foundational for identifying believers as Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise, and it emphasizes the continuity of God’s people from the patriarchal era to Christian times. It also includes a series of letters defending infant baptism, arguing that baptism takes the place of circumcision and remains the divinely ordained seal of the covenant for all covenant children. Throughout, Worcester engages with contemporary antipedobaptist critics, defending the historic covenantal framework and urging faithful parental responsibility in covenantal education and nurture. The volume ultimately presents a unified, enduring view of God’s covenant with Abraham and his seed across generations.
