A Scottish theologian, Buchanan was educated at the University of Glasgow and an ordained minister of the Church of England, as well as an evangelical missionary. As Calcutta chaplain, Buchanan was influential in introducing Christianity and native education in India. He is primarily known for Christian Researches in Asia; an account of his travels in Asia bound into this work. Bound in full contemporary calf. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to joints and extremities. Slight fading to upper front board, with the odd mark. Hinges starting at boards. Ink inscription and tear to upper gutter of front free. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean with scattered spotting and age toning throughout. Good.
