Stab-stitched pamphlet bound in recent quarter morocco over marbled boards, gilt fillets and title to spine, edges rouged, recent bookplate (of the New Hampshire Historical Society) to front pastedown. Light rubbing to boards and extremities, light wear to head of spine and corners. Moderate toning to interior, light foxing to a few pages, recent small faint ink stamp and early ownership signature (of Sarah C. Williams) to p. [3]. $350. * Only edition. In 1792, Lyman and an associate disrupted the service of local minister Oliver Dodge, who had been given permission to preach at Lyman's church against Lyman's wishes. After loudly reading a remonstrance against Dodge's character, the two were arrested for disturbing the peace. Lyman's objections to Dodge were borne out in 1799 when Dodge was excommunicated from his own church after giving a drunken, profanity-laden sermon. English Short-Title Catalogue W28417.
