Rider Haggard, Bret Harte, Ernest Ingersoll, and many others and edited by Katharine Birdsall. Notable is the erroneous author attribution as noted on the publisher's note, the contents page and the title page. The story "Prince" was not written by H. Rider Haggard, but by Julia K. Hildreth. The publisher, Putnams, used as a source ALLAN THE HUNTER, Lothrop, 1898, which contained Haggard's "A Tale of Three Lions" and another unattributed story, "Prince". Putnams erroneously assumed that "Prince" was also written by Haggard. An earlier book, A TALE OF THREE LIONS, Lothrop, 1890 includes "Prince" and correctly gives the author as Julia K. Hildreth. New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons (n.d.), 372 pages. A VG copy with heavily sunned spine, cracked rear hinge. Unmarked interior.
