Two Handwritten Signed Letters

1895 and 1916. For sale are two handwritten letters to Dr Francis Henry Hill Guillemard (1852-1933), a British biologist, zoologist and traveller. The first is dated 1895 and from George Augustin Macmillan (1855-1936), a member of the Macmillan publishing dynasty. This letter concerns the editiing and preparation for publication of a journal by Mary Henrietta Kingsley (1862-1900), an English ethnographer, scientific writer and explorer, on her travels throughout West Africa. The second letter is date 1916 and is from Arthur Christopher Benson (1862-1925), an English essayist, poet, author and academic. He is probably best known for having written the words of the song "Land of Hope and Glory". The letter explains that he is unable to arrange a meeting with Guillemard. Both handwritten letters are signed and are in very good condition and the handwriting is fairly legible. They have been folded and there is some light foxing on the letter from George Macmillan.
