About this Item

Two miniature manuscript books, each approximately 50 x 45 mm. or a little smaller, written in a secret code. One book appears to be a 'horse story', the other perhaps the cypher book for decoding the text. Together with a few further folded sheets with the same language and three envelopes inscribed with the same code with English translations? Winnie and Gladys Clarke were the daughters of Henry Clarke who was appointed surgeon at Wakefield prison in 1776; he remained there for 30 years.
