The second script is Leonard LeeÕs screenplay has the same working title, dated in type on front wrapper, January 16, 1946, 86 pages, 4to, mimeograph pages on off-white paper, with numerous re-write pages printed on blue paper dated January 21. Together in a contemporary black spring binding, typed title label ÒDressed to KillÓ on front cover. Some toning to sheets, generally fine. Laid in is a black and white 8 by 10 inch still of the filmÕs co-star Patricia Morison with with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce on the Universal Studios lot during the filmÕs production. Dressed to Kill, directed by Roy William Neill was released by Universal Pictures in 1946, and was the last of fourteen films starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Doctor Watson. The film has an original story, but combines elements of the Arthur Conan DoyleÕs short stories ÒThe Adventure of the Six NapoleonsÓ and ÒA Scandal in Bohemia.Ó A clipped contemporary review laid in notes that Gruber adapted the work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and that Lee wrote the screenplay: ÒLeonard Lee, scripting from Frank GruberÕs adaptation of a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story turns in a well worked-out piece of writing, and Neill makes the most of the script with his direction.Ó.
