This volume contains two reports addressed to the Liverpool & Manchester Railway Company by Charles Blacker Vignoles in 1835. The reports detail the planned North Line of railway from Liverpool to the Manchester, Bolton, and Bury Canal near Manchester. Vignoles meticulously outlines the extent of cuttings and embankments required for the project, along with detailed cost estimates.

These reports offer a valuable insight into the early planning and engineering considerations involved in railway construction during the formative years of the railway age. They stand as a historical record of the ambitious engineering endeavors that transformed transportation in 19th-century Britain. For railway enthusiasts, engineering historians, and those interested in the industrial history of England, these reports provide primary source material illustrating the challenges and innovations of early railway development.
