First published in 1954, this is a fifth impression of the Revised Second Edition published in 1970. Top of page block dyed red as issued. Some edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners rubbed and bruised, some overall yellowing and time staining, some splashes (coffee?) to page fore edges, folds slightly rubbed, not price clipped (£1.95), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg copy for its age. 352pp, foldout map at rear as called for. The second volume in J. R. R. Tolkien's (1892-1973), classic 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin, alone that is save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.
