Two prints representing farmers from Zaandam. One shows a woman holding a young girl by the hand. The girl holds a flying bird by a lace. This impression is titled: 'Paysanne de Saardam' and is signed: 'P. vanden Berge inven: et schulp: / G. Valck ex Cum Privilegio Ordin: Hollandiae et West Frisia.'The second impression shows a man holding a girl in his arm. Titled below in French and Dutch: 'Paysan de Saardam / Boer van Saardam.' Signed: 'Pet: Schenk exc: Amst C:P:'These impressions come from different editions of a set of ten prints designed by van den Berge, showing the costumes of people from Dutch villages.Nicely hand colored.Kuus, Saskia, "Een boer en boerin uit Saardam en andere prenten door Pieter van den Berge", in: Kostuum, Jaaruitgave van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Kostuum, Kant, Mode en Streekdracht, 2005, p. 27-42.
