On tissue sheets 8x12.5 inches, each one page, dated August 8, 1914 and August 9, 1914. The first: 28 lines, reproduces a telegram from Rome giving instructions for those wishing to use one of two private English steamers to return to America in just a few days, followed by a request to keep the Consulate notified of intention, and offering government transports with the timing not yet decided. The second: 44 lines, more anxious; "With no sign of improvement in the war conditions.travel through the land may soon be difficult or even impossible, it would seem the part of wisdom to.". A couple of paragraphs of what do expect in terms of ships and ports that will be available, private and governmental. "It is incumbent on each American to do what he can to aid the Government.and to aid his fellow Americans in every way possible.There is no occasion for panic or special alarm, but there is for coordinate action and for cheerful compliance with the instructions issued through the Embassy at Rome and sent to you by me."
