I'll be happy to see you right after Easter ;" André Maurois (1885-1967), novelist and biographer, was son of an Alsatian draper who worked in the family business until he became a staff liaison officer with the British forces during World War I. His novel, Les Silences du colonel Bramble (1918) gained him an immediate celebrity; Maurois wrote prolifically: novels on philosphical and moral themes, and well-regarded biographies; he was elected to the Académie Française in 1938.
