Clarence Major (born 1936) is a poet, painter and novelist. He was the winner of the 2015 'Lifetime Achievement Award in the Fine Arts,' presented by the Congressional Black Caucus and was awarded the 2016 PEN Oakland/Reginald Lockett Lifetime Achievement Award. Galen Williams founded Poets and Writers in 1970. 3 typed letters signed, all addressed to Galen (Williams), on letterhead of 11 Waverly Place, New York, dated May 15, 1971; Sept 23, 1971; and April 21, 1972. About 50, 100 and 150 words. Each letter is asking for help finding reading opportunities and teaching assignments 'to make ends meet.' News of current activities are also included. One letter previously folded for mailing. Some holograph comments, presumed from Galen, in margins. One typed postcard signed, dated June 30, '71, discusses releasing his address to others, planned trip to Europe and lack of work.
