Eighth edition. Original boards show only light wear, with rubbing to corners and wear to foot of spine; binding tight; pages clean with some foxing to early and late pages and near leading edge. A number of pinprick and slightly larger beetle holes near top edge of many pages (see photos). Four foldout charts and illustrations complete. A landmark work of scientific racism by a slaveowner and an Egyptologist, arguing that different races originated separately -- later a common tenet of white supremacist thought. Nott and Gliddon aimed to further the work of skull-measuring racist Samuel George Morton, 'the father of American physical anthropology.' Fascinating and horrific.
