2 Types of Prosperity: The Hunter and The Cultivator (Paperback or Softback)

The prosperity of the hunter is dependent on the forest. And the forest belongs to somebody else.

Two men can earn the same money in the same year and be standing in completely different places. One earns by going out, and when he stops, the earning stops. The other earns by growing something, and it continues while he sleeps, and it can be handed on. Effort is not the difference between them. Position is.

Esau came in from the field exhausted and traded a birthright for a bowl of stew. It is the oldest transaction in the world, and it is still being made every week by capable people who are too tired to read what they are signing.

Abraham A. Great tells it through four generations of one family: a cocoa farmer in Ibadan who died without a document, a son who worked three lives at once and still lost the ground, a nephew who left for London as a bank clerk in 1961 and came home to run a bank, and four boys now building things nobody asked them to build.

This is not an argument against employment. The hunt is honourable and it can be climbed to the very top. But a man should know what he is standing on, and this book hands him a position he can locate this week, a price on what he is trading away, and both halves of the succession that most families only ever finish one of.
